Deliberate non-suicidal self-injury (NSSI) is the intentional cause of harm to one's own body, very often to cope with intense emotional distress. Very often it achieves that aim, which is why it persists. It is more prevalent amongst young people, though by no means confined to them. Non-suicidal self-injury is not attempted suicide. People who self-harm do not intend to kill themselves, at that point in time. In attempted suicide, by contrast, the person intends to kill themselves. However, although it is important to distinguish between non-suicidal self-injury and attempted suicide, people who self-harm are in fact 10 times more likely to eventually end their own lives than people who don't. Sometimes, non-suicidal self-injury is triggered by events such as: bereavement, loss of employment, imprisonment, relationship problems, and other crises, yet at other times, none of those are present, and the non-suicidal self-injury seems to be purely an effective means of coping with tension and stress. NSSI is a presentation which is worrying and dis-empowering for many professionals, so this course sets out to give a clear and effective approach to working with non-suicidal self-injury by providing patients with something that works better for them than harming themselves. Clinical supervision is a key concept that many people are unclear about. Unclear whether 'supervision' means that you should be ensuring that the supervisee is 'doing it right' or whether you should be providing a sounding board for the supervisee to develop their clinical thinking, or what. And many people are equally unsure about exactly what their professional body has to say about it, and where to find that out. This course is designed to clear up all of the above by looking at what we need to achieve in supervision, how to establish a competent supervision contract, and how to deliver on that contract. The aim is, therefore, that by the end of the course you will both (a) know about clinical supervision and (b) be good at providing it. All clinicians want to provide patients with the maximum benefit, but many are acutely aware that while they are providing one person with the best they can offer, they are providing ten or more others with nothing at all. And that clearly isn’t equitable, either for the patients concerned or for the clinician, who often feels frustrated and under pressure as a result. This course is designed to illustrate that there is a realistic solution to the dilemma and that a single session input can be surprisingly effective and rewarding, both for patients and clinicians. Appropriately for busy clinicians, this is a suitably short course! The APT has mastered the delivery of Single Session Therapy training 'online anytime'; providing top class training you can access right now or any time that suits you. No longer do you have to wait for 'the start date' of the course. "Really good to be given reassurance that this form of therapy can be the most appropriate and the skills to deliver this to a high standard." Single Session Therapy (SST) training from the Association for Psychological Therapies (APT), includes APT accreditation, certification, and resources. And the APT has perfected the art of delivering it in a way that makes it appear simple and easy to apply. "I found this course to be very helpful. SST will definitely be a new tool I will use in my role and be very beneficial to service users as well as the efficiency of the service. I feel more confident in some aspects of my role due to this training." With a wealth of clinical experience, Dr William Davies presents the course with relevant examples and an engaging lightness which perfectly complements the power of the subject.   "Very much enjoyed this training ... the best external training provider I have experienced in the last few years." This course gives you a thorough introduction to Single Session Therapy, it is APT-accredited, and gives you access to important resources for you to use post-course. This online course is for managers and directors and focuses on how to manage in a way that generates good mental health and wellbeing in the workplace, and doing so in a realistic way that works well for everybody. Many people spend more waking hours at work than they spend anywhere else, so it is imperative that we do our best to get matters right in the workplace. So this course spends only a little time on the mental health difficulties that can beset people, and focuses instead on what you as a manager or director can do to foster good mental health and wellbeing in a way that embeds it into your organisation. So we are not talking about mere ‘add-ons’, we are talking about your style and strategy, and operating a style and strategy that is good for your employees and colleagues and therefore is fundamentally good for your organisation in a realistic, practical, and measurable way.
